Our approach to projects of this type not only recognises the key principles of conservation but is based upon understanding how the buildings were originally constructed. This enables us to visualise how they will respond to the proposed intervention, whether that be repairs or alterations. The practice has worked on scores of listed buildings including a number of Grade 1 and some Scheduled Ancient Monuments, that bring their own challenges. Churches often have unique problems. From spreading arches to the dynamics of bell frames and the wind effects on spires the practice has long experience of sympathetically designing repairs to the structures. For new work both as additions or complete buildings the aesthetics and quality of the detailing are top priorities.
